daytodaytodaytodaytodaytodaytodaytodaytoday

Just dawned on me... January 27th, 2011 will mark 5 years. I'm going back to color and trying to come up with a new set up. Never thought this would go on so long. At this point, it seems it would be silly to stop. I wonder if I appear to be aging or changing at all. I am excited to see all of this in 10 years/20 years/and on. I wonder where we'll all be.

Still have my obsessive projects. January 27, 2006 marked the starting point for these self portraits. I haven't stopped taking them I just never put them on the blog anymore.

Seems lately everything has been up in the air. Job security, apartment security, relationship security... all of a sudden these images feel very important to make. As if I'm slipping into an area of adulthood that is highly uncomfortable and the challenge to keep looking inward is far steeper. I have no idea when this project will end... but for now there's always another day to sit still. At least for 30 seconds.

Everybody Knows This in Nowhere. Day 334

"So much time goes by without hearing from anybody."

"I've been waiting to get some of my computer stuff from your brother. I need it to start working on my projects again. It's been in storage this whole time. I know he's busy but I just wish I could get back to some of the stuff I left behind."

Everybody Knows This in Nowhere. Day 314

"I got the disk of photographs you sent me from your visit in December. They are just so fantastic. They are really really great. I forgot to tell you that I got that in the mail."

Everybody Knows This in Nowhere. Day 303.

"I thought that you calling in the morning might mean a shorter conversation... with phone minutes being an issue. But then I just got so carried away that I forgot you might have to get back to work. We haven't talked in a long time. It's good to hear your voice."

It dawns on me quite frequently that I have been neglecting a few projects. This one suffers greatly, as I haven't been in contact with my father as much as I used to be. (strange but true.. it was easier when he was in than it is now that he's out). We talk every few weeks... sometimes with spells of silence that stretch past that.

"I can't email anymore. They've asked me not to use my account for anything other than job searches. I'm afraid to do it even if it seems harmless.. cause they can ask me to take a lie detector test at any moment. Please don't send me anything from now on. I know it's a shame."

730 days straight...
I just had my two year mark with daily self portraits.
Decided to smile for the occasion.

Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere. Day 274.

"It's been really rough lately. The holidays just passed, so there's not much work out there to get. On top of that there's the writer's strike. Most of those people are taking all the jobs. I'm going back in again tomorrow to look over the listings."

Everybody Knows This is Nowhere, Day 253.
(visiting with my father in CA)

"Today has been a really, really great day. It stopped raining right as I was riding my bike out for the day and didn't start back up until I came home, hours later. I've been sitting in the doorway with an umbrella just enjoying the sound of it."

Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere. Day 203.
"I had gotten so spoiled with your mothers family taking me in on Thanksgiving for so long. And then for a while I had friends that threw big dinner parties. But seems people spread out. My roommate and her boyfriend are going out to a dinner that costs something like seventy dollars a person. So I won't be doing that either. I'll probably just be here."

Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere. Day 166.
"My bicycle wheel has been very wobbly lately. It's the bike or riding the bus these days. I'm hoping it doesn't get worse. I'll have to break down and buy a new one, hopefully for under fifty bucks."

I've finally caught up with editing my project: Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere and though this is not the final presentation or format.. my last 140 days can be seen here. Of course there are many more days to come. I had shyed away from the format used in my past self portrait projects for quite some time, using words and stories shared by my father over long distance phone calls, but I think I might be coming back to it. Our conversations have been happening in very spaced out increments but I feel it is important to bring him back into the equation.

Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere. Day 81.

"I've been searching almost daily. Even when there are quite a few listings there's still not much to be found."

Thank my lucky stars...
I had a mac wizard save my hard drive content.
