WIP features Iranian photographer Shadi Ghadirian

I stumbled across the wonderful works of Shadi Ghadirian in the midst of much protest and struggle in the Middle East and felt it was important to see/show/share. Her show launched this week on wipnyc.org. Take a look.

Cosmetic Girls

I stumbled across this body of work by Hein-Kuhn Oh yesterday and I love it. Clearly I have a love and appreciation for portraiture.. but also for when it is so well done.

"The main content of this series is not about teenagers shown wearing make-up but delves deeper. What hein-kuhn oh attempts to illustrate here is the stereotyped culture of teenagers portrayed through the contemporary makeup code. In fact, to hein-kuhn oh, photography functions as a means to realize a social phenomenon."

White Columns - Conversation #1

CONVERSATION #1

Mutinous Intent
A public discussion about Mutiny and Art
Daniel Bozhkov & Marie Lorenz, with Rick Karr

FEBRUARY 23, 2011
7 pm
White Columns
320 West 13th Street

Skowhegan and White Columns are pleased to announce a new discussion series celebrating the significance of the dialogue that takes place outside of the studio, the classroom, and the gallery. Many generative moments at Skowhegan happen between formal discussions, critiques, and lectures, when participants and faculty have the opportunity to delve deeply into the topics that inform their work and practices. These moments happen while lounging after dinner, on the lawn in the afternoon sun, and in a myriad of other landscapes and times when boundaries are dissolved, and real discourse can take place.

CONVERSATIONS is designed to offer the same casual discussion on the topics and research processes that inform a studio practice, but might not be directly accessible when viewing work in more formal environments. Skowhegan and White Columns share a commitment to offering artists sites dedicated to experimentation and the discourse that surrounds the creative process.

Egypt

I don't get political too often.. but Egypt has grabbed the worlds attention along with mine these past few weeks.

After 18 days of standing up and fighting for what they believe in.. the streets of Egypt are celebrating and cheering in the streets as Mubarak officially resigns.

The (inter)webs we weave

Catfish

A movie for our times. Disturbing, awkward, suspenseful and incredibly sad. The type of movie that makes me want to break away from the way the world is veering.. with online lives taking place of what is real. In this movie especially, the blur between reality and fiction, obsession and innocence makes you just feel downright uncomfortable. Log out and rent it.
